PODCAST – The post-logic election year: Why nobody votes rationally
Date : February 23, 2024 By
It’s a massive election year, with billions voting worldwide. But will those casting votes do so logically? Has voter psychology changed in recent years? And what can be learned from it? To answer these questions I spoke to Jacob Jarvis from The Bunker podcast about our research on voting and decision-making in the context of elections.
Some highlights of our chat include:
“Some see voting as something that upholds democracy and connects you with society at large. It is not an individual activity, it’s one that makes you a citizen.”
“We’re moving away from this ‘rational actor’ assumption and acknowledging that reasoning and emotions interlink in the context of politics.”
“We’re much more distrusting of politicians and political institutions, even within our own camps.”
